This month we spoke to Amanda from Baby Bum Boutique

Describe your business in five words.

Retailer of gorgeous cloth nappies

Describe yourself in five words.

Busy work at home mum!

How and when did your business start?

Started in March 2011 after I used cloth nappies with my daughter and wanted to show people how easy to use they were, as well as promoting other WAHM’s whose nappies I had used and found to be excellent.

What do you enjoy most about working for yourself?

You feel like everything you do is benefitting you and your family, not someone else high up.

What would you say to anyone thinking of starting a business?

Be more organised than me! I was so excited about setting up a business that I overlooked some of the practicalities and had to spend hours later backtracking. Ultimately though, with good planning go for it, but think about how you will be different to other similar businesses.

What have been your highest and lowest points on your journey?

The high point is always getting repeat customers – it says a lot about what people think of you and your products when someone comes back for more. Low points – not many, just a few too late nights when things need doing!

What do you love about Leeds most?

The fact the council offer people a cashback scheme to try cloth nappies.

What’s on the horizon next for you?

Continuing to build up the business and promote the use of cloth nappies. We are also expanding to stock stylish baby carriers.
